When producers Swirl Films and Level Path Productions brought the UP Entertainment Original Movie “The Perfect Summer” to Wilmington in May ’13, Brad was hired on as director of photography, lending his keen eye and creative vision and voice to the collaboration with director Gary Wheeler. Brad helped assemble a trustworthy camera and lighting department consisting of stalwart local crew while also bringing our grip truck and ARRI Alexa to the table.
The feature, an inspirational coming-of-age film about family, surfing, and facing your fears, was shot in and around Wilmington and Carolina Beach, and stars Academy Award nominee Eric Roberts, Sydney Penny, Adam Horner, Katie Garfield, and American Idol Season 7 finalist Jason Castro in his acting debut.
The sun and the surf were on Lighthouse’s side for the 15-day shoot, helping to create the perfect summer aesthetic. Ben shot underwater to further capture the kinetic spirit of the sea and the sport, and additional underwater footage was provided by our good friend Nic McLean.
“The Perfect Summer” premiered exclusively on the UP channel on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at 7 p.m. EDT, with repeat showings at 9 and 11, and Sunday at 7, 9, and 11. The Lighthouse Film Company has an Associate Producer credit.
